Taco cart in La Paz, BCS. Taco total: 30

We arrived in La Paz the day before Christmas Eve. Our arrival marked the end of our riding in Baja California; we could spend a few days off the bike!

I found a bar with WiFi and sat in the corner on my computer to relish a Blackhawks victory over the New Jersey Devils and then met up with Mark at our hostel for the night.

Spending less than $10 for a hotel is novel and exciting; the $10 beds are not as enjoyable.

I woke up hungry and set off in search of brunch. I didn’t have to walk far, though - the street was busy with tent-vendors and taco-carts. I chose a nameless taco cart around the corner from our hostel and ordered 4 tacos: 2 pescado and 2 carne asada.

The meat - fish and steak - was better than expected, but the tortillas really made these tacos shine. Heated and ever-so-slightly crispy, I enjoyed the the flour meat-wrappers immensely. They seemed to absorb some of the flavor from the grill on which they were warmed - the same grill used to cook the meat. I sat and soaked in the bustling Christmas Eve street scene while chomping on the freshly prepared streetfood, enjoying the last minute gift-purchasers from afar.

Cost: 28 pesos for 4 tacos.
